Solo or group travellers from India seeking a thrill, nature exploration, or an ancient heritage discovery spree should explore Bhutan. However, as a foreign land, one may doubt if a visa is required to visit the country. Let’s check it out!

Do Indians Need a Visa to Visit Bhutan?

The confusing question for many is, ‘Is a visa required to visit Bhutan from India’. The answer is no! However, Indian nationals visiting Bhutan should have an Entry Permit. It can be obtained from the immigration office of the Royal Government of Bhutan at Phuentsholing. This office is on the Indo-Bhutan border, opposite Jaigaon in West Bengal.

Any of the below-mentioned valid documents are needed to get the Entry Permit:

  • Indian passport having a validity of a minimum of 6 months
  • Voter ID card issued by the Election Commission of India

If flying to Bhutan, you will get the 'Entry Permit' issued at the Paru International Airport. It is worth noting that it allows Indian tourists to explore Thimphu and Paro only. To travel beyond these areas, a 'special area permit' from the RGoB immigration office in Thimphu must be obtained. Get it on any working day (Monday to Friday) and start your journey ahead.

Conclusion

Get travel insurance online when visiting Bhutan. It can help cover the financial stress of conditions like flight delays, baggage loss, or medical emergencies.
