How to apply for an Irish citizenship?

To apply for Ireland citizenship, follow these steps:

  1. Register on the official website: https://inisonline.jahs.ie/user/login,
  2. Click on Dashboard
  3. Select “Application for Naturalisation”, followed by “Begin Application”
  4. Fill in the details and upload the required documents,
  5. Make sure both proof of identity and proof of residency documents total 150 points for each year lived in Ireland
  6. Tick the statutory declaration
  7. Pay the application fee and submit it

You can also download Form 8 and fill it offline

If your application is successful, you will receive an application number within 19 months, following which there will be a link to conclude the e-vetting process through local police. Once approved, you will receive a Certificate of Naturalisation after making another payment.

Finally, you will have to attend an official citizenship ceremony and share your Irish Residence Permit if you are not from the UK, Switzerland, or the EEA (European Economic Area).

What are the eligibility criteria to get a citizenship in Ireland for Indian citizens?

To be eligible for Ireland citizenship for Indians, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Be able to prove your identity.
  • Have resided legally in Ireland for a minimum of 5 years — a full year continuously before application and a minimum of 4 years in the 8 years prior.
  • Be able to prove residency for every year.
  • Prove intent and purpose to live in Ireland.
  • Be of good character, be willing to attend the citizenship ceremony, and provide a declaration of fidelity.
  • Married or in civil relation with an Irish citizen. You need to prove the duration of the relationship is three or more years. Also, they must have lived at least three out of the last 5 years in Ireland before applying.

Indians, who are non-EU/EEA citizens and non-Swiss nationals, have other Ireland citizenship requirements. You must have reckonable residence of:

  • 1825 or 1826 days if you don’t have an Irish spouse or civil partner.
  • 1095 or 1096 days if you do.

The documents required for Ireland citizenship are:

  • Proof of identity
  • Proof of residency
  • Proof of employment
  • Bank statements for the years resided completely in Ireland
  • Birth certificate, marriage certificate, sworn affidavit, and residence proofs (if married or in a civil partnership with an Irish citizen)

What is the processing fee to apply for Irish citizenship as an Indian?

To apply for Irish citizenship through naturalisation, adults have to pay €175.

Later, you will have to pay a certification fee of:

  • €950 for adults
  • €200 for minors
  • €200 for widows, widowers or surviving civil partners of Irish citizens

Does Ireland allow dual citizenship?

Dual citizenship Ireland is possible. However, India doesn’t allow dual citizenship.

Does a child born in Ireland receive citizenship by birth?

Since January 1, 2005, children born in Ireland do not automatically receive citizenship unless either parent is an Irish citizen, either parent is entitled to become a citizen at the birth of the child or neither parent is an Irish or British citizen but has lived in Ireland for 3-4 years right before the birth of the child.
