What Are the Documents Required for the Bike Ownership Transfer?

Are you considering the purchase of a second-hand or used bike or selling your own?

Such transactions involve transferring vehicle ownership rights from the current owner to the new one, necessitating the submission of specific documents, including the RC, PUC, NOC and bike insurance, among others. This blog will provide an in-depth exploration of the requisite documents for bike transfers in India.

Documents Needed for the Bike Ownership Transfer

Regarding the transfer of motorcycle ownership in India, it’s crucial to know the documents required for bike transfer. These documents are vital for legitimizing and streamlining the process, ensuring the lawful transition of a bike from one owner to another, and addressing all legal and financial aspects appropriately.

In this discussion, we will delve into the key paperwork associated with the documents needed for bike transfer:

  1. Registration Certificate (RC)

One of the most essential documents required to transfer bike ownership is the registration certificate of the vehicle. The seller must submit a transfer registration certificate to the Regional Transport Office (RTO) to transfer the ownership to the new owner.

If you are the seller, you must verify all the details mentioned in the RC, such as the owner’s name, chassis number and engine type.

If you’ve bought your two-wheeler on loan, make sure to obtain a No Objection Certificate and a stamped Form 35 that confirms the full repayment of the bank loan taken for the vehicle.

  1. Duly Filled Form 29

Another essential document that you are required to submit to the RTO office is the Form 29. The form serves as a document of ownership transfer of a bike and a notification of sale of your two-wheeler to the RTO. You are required to submit two copies for the same in the RTO office.

  1. Duly Filled Form 30

Yet another document that you are required to submit during the ownership transfer for your two-wheeler is the duly filled Form 30. This form is the confirmation of the previous form. It functions as the official record document for the transfer of ownership, indicating that someone else has officially received the two-wheeler. You must submit two copies of the Form 30 to the RTO office.

  1. Insurance Certificate

An insurance certificate is another vital document you require for transferring the ownership of the bike. As per the Motor Vehicles Act, it is mandatory to have valid insurance for your vehicle. You need the Insurance Certificate to register your vehicle with the RTO. Collect it from your seller to complete the bike transfer process. Do remember to renew your insurance policy on its expiry.

  1. Pollution Under Control Certificate

When purchasing a second-hand motorbike, obtaining a Pollution Under Control Certificate is essential. It is also important for estimating the vehicle’s value. Remember to check for the serial number of the certificate and license plate number, test the readings done and confirm the expiry date of the certificate.

  1. Transfer Deed

The transfer deed of the vehicle is a must to confirm the ownership of the bike to the new owner. It guarantees that the first owner has no rights and liabilities related to the bike. The transfer deed contains the names and addresses of both the buyer and the seller, along with all the pertinent bike details, including the registration number, chassis number, engine number and more. The deed requires signatures from both the buyer and the seller, and it necessitates the affixation of a revenue stamp.

  1. Other Important Documents

Other documents for bike paper transfer include identity proof of the buyer and the seller, address proof and two passport-sized photographs.

Conclusion

This blog compiles the necessary documents for transferring a bike from one owner to the new owner. If you’re buying a second-hand bike, this blog is a helpful reference for bike paper transfer. Additionally, as a bike owner, it’s essential to ensure you have proper bike insurance coverage.
