Here is a guide on how to get VIP number for a bike in Delhi.
Step 1: Registration
Start by registering on the Vahan Parivahan website's e-auction page and getting your Unique Authorization Number (UAN). Then, you must pay a non-refundable e-commerce fee of Rs.1000 online.
- The registration window remains open for three days from the start of the online auction process. Bidding takes place over the following two days after the list of available numbers is released. The process remains accessible even on gazetted holidays.
- Registration Timing: 06:00 am of day 1 to 12:00 midnight of Day 3
- Bidding: After 12 pm of Day 3 to 5 pm of Day 5
- If the numbers are still available, the bidding timing can be extended by a few minutes, 30 minutes being the maximum extension limit.
- The applicant should deposit the minimum reserve price for the number through a demand draft issued in the name of "Director of Transport, Governor of NCT of Delhi" by any nationalised bank.
- The application form is held with the DTIDC,i.e., Delhi Transport Infrastructure Development Corporation. After receiving the DD, the DTIDC provides the payment confirmation receipt. Immediately after paying Rs. 1,000 for registration online, the applicant receives a UAN number via SMS.
- Documents such as the residential address of the person under whom the vehicle is registered should also be submitted along with the DD.
- Fill in the draft details on the left side of the e-auction website or enter UAN details on DD. After completing this process, the applicant will receive a username and password via SMS.
Step 2: Join Bidding
Once the registration period ends on the third day, the bidding process begins on the fourth day and continues until the fifth day, conducted online at the specified times. To participate in the bidding, use the allocated username and password.
- Go to "Select mark of choice" to check the list of available options. You can also add your desired number option placed at the bottom. Its reserve cost is shown against it.
- A person can choose up to 10 numbers. If the number you are interested in is listed, it means someone else has also selected it, increasing the competition for that number. We recommend selecting a maximum of 10 numbers from the list to ensure you have more options if the price for your preferred number exceeds your budget.
Participation in the bidding process is competitive. Therefore, a clear strategy will help you get your desired VIP number.
Step 3: Receiving Your Allotment Letter
After successfully bidding and securing the VIP number, the applicant will receive a note of confirmation via SMS. The final step is to present the confirmation letter to the vehicle dealer, who will register the vehicle with the assigned number.
To obtain this letter, visit the DTIDC office on any working day within five days of the number allocation. If the letter is not collected within this period, the number will be cancelled, and no refund will be issued.
Winning bidders must pay the remaining balance via demand draft within five working days. This payment confirms the applicant's right to the number.
After completing the above steps, it's crucial to ensure that your bike is covered under two-wheeler insurance. This not only protects your investment but is also required by the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. Make sure the policy is current and provides coverage for all potential liabilities.
