Are you planning to switch to a diesel motorbike? Making a wise choice involves knowing its essentials. Your decision to purchase a diesel bike may be affected by various factors, such as maintenance cost, fuel economy, and environmental impact.

Define a Diesel Bike

  • Unlike petrol bikes, which use spark plugs for ignition, a diesel motorcycle uses compressed air.
  • Diesel engines compress air and, subsequently, inject fuel into this highly compressed air.
  • The fuel gets ignited by the heat created by the compressed air.
  • A diesel bike offers more fuel economy than petrol motorbikes as the air compression ratio is higher (i.e., 14-25 times more than the original volume).
  • In comparison to petrol bikes, diesel bikes are more noisy and release more hazardous particulate matter but less CO2.
  • Diesel motorcycles could have superior long-term value retention despite their initial greater cost.

Conclusion

Diesel motorbikes have an edge in fuel economy, but maintenance tasks and emissions are the issues that should be considered. As a responsible bike owner, you must also invest in a comprehensive two-wheeler insurance policy for cruising down the roads with complete peace of mind.
