Why is Lithuanian Visa Needed?
A Lithuania Visa is mandatory for Indian citizens to visit the nation of Lithuania. However, you may not require a Lithuania visa if you hold a Schengen visa. The eligibility requirements for a Lithuanian visa are dependent on the reason and duration of your visit. The types of Lithuania visa are:
Schengen Visa:
The Schengen visa is classified into two types of visas: Airport Transit Visa (A) and Short-Stay Visa (C).
Airport Transit Visa (A): A transit visa is issued to travellers who need to catch a connecting flight, boat, or train into or out of Lithuania. It is valid for transit through international transit areas such as airports. However, it will apply to all Schengen Member States.
Short Stay Visa (C): The short-stay Schengen visa allows for a stay of no more than 3 months, but it should be within six months from the date of entry into any of the member Schengen states. However, it acts as a single as well as multiple entry visas.
National Visa:
It is divided into two types of visa based on the number of entries. Single Entry (D) and Multiple Entry (D).
Single Entry (D): This type of visa is issued to an alien. The individual is then granted temporary or permanent residence in the Republic of Lithuania. The Ministry of Interior’s Migration Department is in charge of the visa issuance.
Multiple Entry (D): This type of visa is issued to alien that in with the express purpose of entering and exiting the nation on a periodic basis.
The issuance of National visas requires submission of specific documents based on the nature and purpose of the visit.
Lithuania Visa Application Process
How to Apply for Lithuanian Visa:
A Lithuanian visa can be attained without too much hassle. You will need to use this link to download fill the visa application form electronically. Kindly note that you cannot hand-fill the application form, it will not be accepted in the above case. It should be electronically filled; then you will need to get a print-out of the filled application form. Additionally, you will need to sign the application and attach photographs and required documents.
You should note that there are no visa application centres for Lithuania visa. It can only be submitted directly to the Embassy of Lithuania in New Delhi.
You will then need to book an appointment at the Embassy of Lithuania in New Delhi. You can use this link to book the appointment online. Only one appointment is valid per applicant. Furthermore, the above link is only applicable for Schengen visas. If you intend to apply for a National Visa (D), then the organisation that is inviting you will have to send an email to consul.in1@urm.lt. Additionally, the following information will be required:
- The full name of the applicant
- Passport number of the applicant
- Invitation number (the invitation number can be submitted through the EPIS Information System of Public Services)
- Date of appointment (preferred, but it will depend on the availability of the date)
Your appointment will be held at the Embassy of Lithuania in New Delhi. You will need to appear in person for the appointment.
Lastly, you will receive a receipt for the services and fees charged during the process. Additionally, you will receive a verification number to check the status of your visa application.

Nobody is allowed to accompany you to the interview, but exceptions can be made for the following reasons:
- If you are under the age of 18
- If you need assistance due to a disability or health reasons.
How to Check Status of Lithuania Visa
There is no link through which you can check the status of your visa application. You will be intimated about the approval of your visa. Additionally, you should not call to ask the status of your visa application.
Lithuania Visa Document Requirements
The following documents have to be submitted depending on the travel purpose
Documents Required for Business trips
:
- An invitation from the inviting organisation or company
- A cover letter from the employer of the applicant
- The registration certificate of the applicant's employer's in India/other countries
- The financial documents or any other documents of the applicant's employer's that prove the activities of the company along with any additional information such as purpose and conditions of the visit
- The Invitation and cover letter must confirm:
- The identity of the applicant
- The journey’s purpose along with any meetings, training, conferences or business related events
- The place and duration of intended stay
Journeys undertook for research, study, or other types of internship (short-term):
- The certificate of admission or registration at an educational establishment in Lithuania
- Cards or certificates of the students from the applicant’s enrolled establishment
Journeys with the purpose or visiting family/friends:
- A marriage certificate will be required if the applicant is married, but the same is not expressed in the passport.
- A certificate proving the existence of a family relationship along with a letter of invitation from the Migration Department of Lithuania for the applicant to temporarily stay in the country
Journeys undertook to attend sports, cultural, or religious events and for film crews:
- An invitation letter approved by the Migration Department of Lithuania. Additionally, the inviting company can also provide an official invitation
- The entry tickets, enrolments or programmes.
- For film crews:
- The film company should provide a letter that specifies the following: title, synopsis and shooting locations of film
- The list of names of crew members along with their roles
- A letter from the agency in Lithuania confirming arrangements along with relevant permits
- A certificate of registration from the Film Chamber of Commerce or Indian Motion Pictures Producers Association.
Journeys of members of official delegations:
- A copy of the official invitation;
- A Note verbale issued by the sending authority/authorities that confirms the following:
- Applicant’s identity
- Applicant’s the purpose of the journey
- Applicant’s place and duration of stay
Journeys undertook for medical treatment:
- A certificate from a medical doctor or a medical institution. The letter or certificate should confirm the need for specific medical treatment that will be received in Lithuania
- An official document from the medical institution that will receive the applicant> it should approve the particular medical treatment. Additionally, the acceptance of the patient should also be attached.
- A proof of pre-payment of the treatment
- All correspondence between the medical doctor who has deferred the patient to Lithuania and the institution that will receive the patient
Documents Required for Seafarers:
- The Employment contract or appointment letter that shows the duration of the employment
- A Copy of the seafarer's working contracts to board the ship
- Seaman's book
- Invitation from the shipping company or maritime agency in Lithuania. The invitation should bear the stamp and sign of the company or agency in Lithuania. The invitation should also include the following:
- The full name of the seafarer
- The place and date of birth of the seafarer along with the passport number and the number of seafarer's book
- The date of issue along with the validity of seafarer’s passport and book
- The position of the seafarer on the vessel
- The name along with the flag of the boat
- The boarding date along with the name of the port of boarding and disembarking
- The itinerary that the seafarer will follow to arrive in Lithuania
- The letter of invitation should also include the name and address of the Indian agency along with the name of the organisation in Lithuania.
- Flight reservation (if applicable)

- Visa or other entry permits for the final destination.
- Documents that clarify onward journey to the final destination
