What is Tyre Protect Cover in Car Insurance?

Tyre protect cover, also known as tyre protection cover, is an add-on in car insurance that compensates you for expenses incurred on repairing or replacing damaged tyres. Generally, regular car insurance does not pay for tyre damage. However, with this add-on you can replace damaged tyres without having to incur significant out-of-pocket expenses. You need to pay an additional premium to avail this add-on.

Benefits of Tyre Protection Cover

A tyre protect cover offers several benefits. Some of them are:

Covers repair and replacement cost

Tyre damage can be expensive. With tyre protect cover, you don’t have to worry about sudden repair or replacement costs. The cover takes care of the expenses and you don’t have to dip into your savings.

Helps extend tyre life

When damages are repaired on time, tyres last longer. The cover makes it easier for you to get quick repairs. This helps you avoid bigger issues and keeps your car running smoothly.

Reduces unexpected expenses

Tyre troubles usually come without warning. Having a tyre protection cover means you don’t need to arrange money in a hurry. It makes your car easier and stress-free.

Tyre Protect Cover: Inclusions & Exclusions

  • Inclusions
  • Exclusions

Tyre protection cover helps you cover expenses for the repair and replacement of damaged tyres due to:

  • Burst due to incorrect air pressure
  • Tyre side wall indentations due to external impact
  • Damage suffered because of an external impact

It’s essential to note that there are certain exclusions under tyre protection cover. In other words, this cover will not provide coverage under specific situations. These include:

  • Total loss/Cash Loss/constructive total loss (TL/CTL) of the insured vehicle
  • Replacement or repairing the damaged tyre without prior authorisation from us
  • Loss or damage arising out of natural wear and tear, mechanical failure or improper suspension geometry as specified by the manufacturer
  • For any loss or damage within first 15 days of inception of the policy
  • For any loss or damage occurred prior to the inception of the policy
  • Repair or replacement done at unauthorised garages
  • Loss or damage arising out of any manufacturing defect or design, including manufacturer's recall
  • Minor damage or scratches not affecting the tyre’s functioning

Important things to keep in mind while buying Tyre Protect Cover

Along with inclusions and exclusions, you need to consider certain other factors when purchasing a tyre protection add-on. These include:

1

Time for claim intimation

Make sure to raise a claim from this add-on within a specified time. Intimate all claims to us within 3 days of damage. However, do note that this condition is not applicable when there’s a delay due to unavoidable circumstances.

2

Limit on claims

You can make a maximum of 4 replacements of tyres/tubes under this add-on within the policy period. The policy period typically lasts 12 months from the date of issuance.

3

Same make and specification

Whenever replacement of tyre(s) and/or tube(s) will be allowed, it should be of the same make and specification as fitted by the OEM. If tyres of similar specification are unavailable and the replaced tyre is superior to the damaged one, we’ll not be liable for the differential amount.

Who should buy a tyre protection cover?

A tyre protect can be a useful add-on if you:

  • Drive on rough roads filled with potholes frequently

FAQs on Tyre Protection Cover

What are the inclusions of a tyre protect cover?

Typically, a tyre protection cover provides coverage for expenses incurred on repairing or replacing a damaged tyre due to external means, side wall indentations, burst due to external impact, etc. Go through the policy wordings to know the inclusions in detail.

Can I buy a tyre protect cover with a third-party insurance policy?
