  1. The eligibility criteria for Iceland citizenship for Indian is:
  • Domicile requirement: Applicants must have lived in Iceland for at least seven years. If less, one possible route is marriage to an Icelandic citizen, followed by at least four years of domicile in Iceland post-marriage. Additionally, your spouse must have held Icelandic citizenship for at least five years.
  • Financial independence: The municipality should not have provided living assistance in the past three years.
  • No criminal record: Applicants must be clear of criminal offences or history of imprisonment.
  • Language and citizenship exam: Passing the Icelandic language and citizenship examination is mandatory.

  2. Click "Open application" and provide accurate details.
  3. Scan and submit documents and deposit the application fees online. The documents required are:
  • Passport copy
  • Certificate of Legal Registration History
  • Icelandic Language Test Certificate
  • Municipality Assistance Confirmation (last three months)
  • Foreign Criminal Record Certificate (if applicable)
  • Financial Stability Proof (payslips, tax statements)

The application fee for both adult and minor Indian applicants is kr1,902.75.

  1. Wait for the board's approval; if accepted, you will receive a citizenship certificate via mail.
