Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) declared that prior the month end, nearly one crore railway commuters have availed the rail insurance policy launched on September 1.
As per this new initiative, every train commuter can receive an insurance coverage of up to ₹10 Lakh on reserving an online railway ticket of no more than 92 paise.
In the face of unforeseen circumstances irreversible impairment injury, this policy provides ₹7.5 lakh as reimbursement. It also offers to pay for hospitalisation charges up to ₹2 lakh.
In the incidents of death or injury resulting from train accident, terrorist assault, robbery, rampage or any other criminal activity, it ensures a coverage of ₹ 10,000 for the conveyance of the mortal remains. These incidents also include unanticipated cancellation of a trip, redirected routes of the journeys and Vikalp trains.
Applicable to every individual who reserves an online railway ticket for any class via the IRCTC website, the coverage is not currently extended to sub-urban train passengers.
The coverage is effective from the source station to the destination. It also includes the in-between embarking and de-embarking activities of passengers. Moreover, the medical care subsequent to an accident is also covered within this insurance.
